Video Game Design Workshops compliment curriculum objectives in Technology, Math, Visual Arts & Language Arts. Students will gain logic and rudimentary programming skills in an object-oriented computer programming environment.

Video Game Design Workshops

Artech offers three and five-day Video Game Design Workshops for students from elementary grades through high school. Classroom teacher or school is welcome to suggest theme that we will design the workshop around.

Let the Games Begin! – Three Day Workshop

Introduction to basic 2D game development and logical thinking. An action video game will be created during the week: a maze or scroller-style game.

Students will gain experience creating their own characters, enemies or monsters and other game elements. They will develop their own unique game story, strategies and rules.

A DVD compilation of all the games students create would be made for the group. Individual DVDs may be ordered for each student.

Onwards and Upwards Through the Levels – Five Day Workshop

Introduction to basic 2D game development and logical thinking. Two action games will be created during the week. Students begin the week with a scroller or maze game and progress to a platform-style game (along the lines of Donkey Kong).

Students will gain experience creating their own characters, enemies or monsters and other game elements. They will develop their own unique game story, strategies and rules. For extra challenge we will cover a number of advanced features such as Animated Sprites and mathematical expressions.

For Grades 7 and higher – Elements of artificial intelligence and an introduction to scripting can also be covered.

A DVD compilation of all the games the students create would be made for the group. Individual DVDs may be ordered for each student.

Workshops are tailored to different levels depending on ages and abilities of student groups. We can accommodate students and groups of special learners or gifted children as well.

Do you have a particular theme or subject that you would like us to incorporate? We can design a program that will fit with studies in almost any subject area: E.g. Musical Games –Battle of the Bands, Biology – Bacterial Wars, and Creative Writing – Choose Your Own Adventure. Sorting games can fit well with learning Math Determining Odd & Even Numbers or illustrating Environmental Awareness – Recyling.
