Yesterday I attended the Game On exhibition at Montreal’s Science Centre – put on in collaboration with Ubisoft – what a treat – more than 100 games to try, spanning more than 50 years of game development and innovation! Pong, Pacman, Space Invaders and many more through to Grand Theft Auto, Dance, Dance Revolution! and present day Virtual Reality.
Remember Spore? – one of my all time favourites (next to Pacman) from 2008 – create a species from its beginnings as a microscopic organism. Steer it’s growth and development as it becomes an intelligent and social creature.
In addition to the many games the exhibit included storyboards and sketches created for games and characters. There was a crayon sketch of Mario created by Shigeru Miyamoto, one of Nintendo’s character artists. Sketches and storyboards and art for Spore and other games covered the walls.
If you are going to be in Montreal in the next few days, check it out – show runs until September 13th, 2015!
